Alexis’ Trans-figure Nation

There are so many great Creators online, and everyone is doing their bit to get our stories out there. So my bit is to try and highlight their efforts. It’s not much, but every little action helps raise awareness. Right? So, if you not following @alexis_at_last on Instagram yet, please do so right this second. And then let me tell you what she is up to.

Alexis Lorraine is a mom, a teacher, an activist, a feminist and a lot more … but most importantly, a woman. No, I did not say trans woman. And why should I? One thing I have learnt by following people like Alexis, is that there should not be a distinction on what type of woman. I mean, it’s bad enough that we are trying to exist in a world that seems to only accept a binary gender view. And gender, is anything but binary. But most people walking on this blue and green little marble in space, don’t understand how fluid gender (and sexuality) can be, and in order for them to be educated, projects like Trans-figure Nation is critical.

Trans-figure Nation attempts to start conversations around gender topics. And to kick things off on September 1st, Alexis starts her LIVE stream interviews with regular transgender community members, and explores their stories.

At the moment it’s just live stream interviews of regular trans experience people. Once I get settled in my new home I am going to move to a YouTube setup once a week.

The whole idea for the project began when Alexis was in her car and there was an advertisement for a contest. The company who created the advertisement was going to give one person $30,000 to take time away from their job and pursue a dream. Alexis immediately thought that, if given the opportunity, she would love to travel, meeting other transgender individuals and collecting their stories into a documentary. Finding the shared experiences and the unique life events that make us both the same and so completely different.

From that grain came the idea of creating a youtube channel devoted to the project, offering a resource for our younger trans siblings to see and relate to as they explore the beginnings of their own journeys. As Alexis explored the idea she realized she needed to see if there was any demand for this, and so she came up with the idea of conducting live stream interviews of everyday trans people on Instagram. Alexis posted a quick inquiry on her story asking if anyone would be interested, and within hours she had nearly 20 requests to be interviewed; and so Trans-figure-Nation was born. Real Trans People, Real Trans Stories.

Once the initial run of interviews is complete which will take nearly a month, I am hoping to move to longer interview sessions, recorded, and shared with a much broader audience.

We touched base with some of the community who has already been interviewed by Alexis for this project, and this is what they had to say about the experience …

I loved sharing my experience and though my situation at home is tough I hope that sharing my experiences will help someone else and shine more light on the daily lives of transgender people. Also the hope is to build a community together sharing our stories and showing we aren’t alone and together we are stronger. We can fight better together!

I enjoyed my interview with Alexis on her show “Trans Figure Nation” very much. She’s an excellent interviewer and keeps the conversation flowing really well. I’ve always said “I will share my story with anyone that will listen” and I’m glad I got to do that with her. My hope is that somewhere out there, someone listened to it and gleaned something from my story that could help them in some small way.

I believe what Alexis is doing is going to help others in so many ways. It will encourage, affirm, give hope, and be a voice for those who have no voice. I was thankful for the opportunity to share a bit about my journey and enjoyed getting to know Alexis. I hope my sharing helped someone else.
