Charlie’s Pre-HRT MTF Transition Tips | Nails
I have always had healthy strong nails, even though I use to bite them off regularly out of shame once someone notices them, and/or makes a comment. Since coming out as transgender, I no longer care who sees. I love long nails. It’s the one thing that has always made me feel feminine the quickest coz my nails grow pretty fast.
Similarly to the moisturizing routine, this was a way of showing my body and myself some love. Looking down and seeing a feminine hand is a small but significant way I would affirm my gender to myself during this period where I wasn’t allowed or able to express it to the rest of the world. I wasn’t confident enough to go for a bold color during this period, so I’d just keep them filed and buffed with a coat of clear gloss or top coat, but this was enough to keep me feeling feminine during this hard time. Try it!
With time, and as my confidence grew, I have switched from a simple top coat to an enamel with a Pearl effect. I use “Gleaming Golden” from the Avon Color Trend range on most work days, and then something more daring and colorful on weekends.
You need to experiment though. I have found that colors that work well for my wife, does not necessarily work well for me. Practice often. Your technique for applying nail polish will develop over time. Don’t worry if you get nail polish onto your skin. It usually comes of quite easily in the shower or bath during your normal morning routine. If not, a fine cutton bud with some nail polish remover will do the trick. The point is to have fun with it. Your have all the colors of the rainbow to play with, and then some.
